Watkins Mfg. Inc. has been manufacturing SAW-lution™
Systems, also known as Kerf Cutter ™ Systems, for over 40 years. These
Systems replace single point tooling on turning machines with the “Rotary
Saw Cutting” (RSC) method. This method utilizes a rotating, circular saw
blade for cutting off, grooving, and forming while the bar stock is rotating.
On non-rotating bar stock, RSC can be used for cross slotting and end slotting.
RSC can be utilized on a number of turning machines. On CNC machines, RSC is
easy when live tooling stations are available. The modular design concept of
our SAW-lution™ Systems permits easy adaptation to a variety of other host
machines or jobs. Standardized attachments and parts are available to fit most
multi-spindle and single-spindle automatic screw machines: Acme Gridley, New
Britain, Conomatic, Wickman, Gildemeister, Warner & Swasey, Davenport,
Schuette, Euroturn, Index, Bardons & Oliver, Modern, Traub, Brown &
Sharpe, custom machinery, etc.
Constant support and engineering have transformed our SAW-lution™ Systems
into highly reliable pieces of equipment. Improvements over the last 35 years,
on the Systems and on the saw blades, have expanded the range of applications.
The early models were powered from the host machine's gear box severely
limiting the flexibility of operating conditions. Since then, the unit has
become a motorized, self-contained attachment.
Saw blade availability/capability has also improved. Saw blades are available
in high speed steel, super steels, and solid carbide. Various surface
treatments, such as TiN, TiCN, TiAlN, and Liquid Nitride, increase saw life and
produce better surface finishes. Variability in saw geometry adds to the
quality and effectiveness of the cut.
Technical assistance is available from Watkins Mfg. Inc. for choosing the
proper saw geometry and operating specifications. All new System purchases
include on-site start-up assistance, operating specifications, and on-going
technical assistance. Training workshops are also available.
Turning SAW-lutions™ Division
Our Turning SAW-lutions™ Division is the heart of our
R&D efforts. Presently the department consists of Acme-Gridley Screw
Machines, CNC Lathes with live tooling and sub-spindles, and a customized CNC
single-spindle turning machine.
Our Turning Division can quote complete part jobs for you. Your job can also be
set-up and refined at our location and then, once your company is ready,
transferred to your location...saving you time and effort!
